Payments & Refunds
Last updated:
1. What you pay us, and what you pay your instructor
There are two separate payments for every lesson.
- The deposit is paid to us, by card, at the moment you book. It reserves the instructor's time and is set by that instructor — the exact amount is shown before you confirm.
- The balance is paid directly to your instructor on the day of the lesson, in cash, cheque or money order. We never collect it, never invoice for it, and never hold it.
This page is about the deposit only. It is the only money we take from you.
2. The deposit is not a booking you can walk away from
The deposit guarantees the appointment for both sides. Your instructor turns down other work to hold that slot, and drives to meet you. Where the deposit ends up depends on what happens to the appointment:
| What happens | Your deposit |
|---|---|
| The lesson goes ahead | We keep it as our booking fee. It is not credited against the lesson price. |
| You cancel or move the lesson with at least the notice shown at checkout | Refunded to you in full. |
| You cancel with less notice than that | Paid to the instructor for the time they held open. |
| You do not turn up | Paid to the instructor for the wasted trip. |
| Your instructor cancels, for any reason | Refunded to you in full, whatever the notice. |
The notice window is shown to you in your dashboard before you cancel, and is stated again on the cancellation screen with the consequence spelled out. It is currently 24 hours.
3. How refunds are issued
Refunds go back to the card that paid the deposit — we cannot send them anywhere else. Allow up to YOUR-REFUND-WINDOW business days for your bank to post it. If the deposit had not yet been charged to your card when the appointment was cancelled, there is nothing to reverse: the authorisation is simply cancelled and you will see no charge at all.
4. Disputes about the lesson itself
Your instructor is an independent, state-licensed business. Complaints about how a lesson was taught, the vehicle, or the balance you paid at the kerb are between you and them — we did not take that money and cannot return it. Tell us anyway: we vet who appears in this directory and we remove instructors who do not meet the standard.
5. Chargebacks
If you believe a deposit was taken in error, contact us first — we can usually settle it the same day. Raising a chargeback for a lesson balance you handed to an instructor in cash will not succeed against us, because we never received it.
6. Instructors: when we pay you
Deposits released to you for a late cancellation or a no-show are paid out YOUR-PAYOUT-SCHEDULE. Deposits on lessons that went ahead are ours and are not paid out. Everything else you earn is collected by you, from the student, on the day.
